Malostranské náměstí 203/14: The Black Eagle

A chemist’s has stood in this spot since 1488, Also known as U kocoura (The Cat) after the pub which once shared its premises, the pharmacy U černého orla (The Black Eagle) is a prominent landmark in the city’s Malá Strana district.

Today’s neo-renaissance building, with its forest of sgraffito-work, was constructed in 1888 to a plan by Jan Rixy. The pharmaceutical giant Zentiva traces its 19th-century origins to this same establishment.
